In the country of Honduras, particularly out of the tourist zones, there are no libraries. The idea of a lending library is completely foreign to the people here. It is not an exaggeration. Schools typically have shortgages of textbooks, so students are forced to copy lessons in their own notebooks and memorize each day's lessons. The idea of reading for pleasure or for discovery is not a known practice to most Honduran children. I am working with a local church in the outskirts of Tegucigalpa, Honduras, to bring books to ordinary children and their parents. The pastor has a vision to use the books as a mobile library, taking books and the simple message of God's love to people living on the side of the mountain. There are about 50,000 people on this one mountainside alone, and the city is ringed by such mountains, filled with people who subsist on very low wages or none at all, living without running water and in many cases, no electricity. A book is a rare treat.
If you would like to buy books for the library project, all donations will go to buy books. Alternately, you can choose from a list of books I have compiled at Amazon.

Financial donations can be given to Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Kenner, Louisiana. Information on mailing and phone numbers are at http://www.vcfk.com/
The book wish list is at http://www.amazon.com/. Enter my name or email at the box that says, Wish List. I have selected Spanish and bilingual books for you to choose from. Our greatest need is the Bible. Illustrated children's Bibles are very exciting to our readers. Even moms and dads enjoy them, because most Hondurans in this area have little education, most not having more than a sixth grade education at best.
